Engagement, creativity, innovation and inspiration.

Last night saw the launch of Manchester and Salford Illustrated - a showcase of some of the very best commercial artists and illustrators in the area, around the theme of ‘What does Manchester mean to you?’.

The exhibition was organised by ‘Wood Street’s Creative Friends’ – a group of people from Manchester’s creative community, dedicated to galvanising the creative talent in Manchester and Salford.

As well as commerical artists, there was also a student competition, with the winning student receiving a 2 week placement at Manchester agency, Creative Lynx.

We’re very pleased to announce that Salford BA Graphic Design student, Matthew Nevitt, won the competition! His submission (shown above) came with the following commentary:

Manchester.

To me it means the rain.

To me its the rough roads.

To me its the old industrial buildings.

To me its the smashed glass.

Not all of its beautiful but to me it is.

Have you ever noticed on a grid its says ‘Right at the heart of things’, you then ask yourself who would notice that?

Well…. I have and the old bottle factory on the Northern city limit is something I have passed everyday on my board out of choice.

The exhibition runs until the 10th November at 52 Princess Street, Manchester, with all proceeds from the event going to Wood Street Mission.
